Leading Modeling & Simulation Expert Joins Referentia Systems
Dr. Gary Horne is the founder of the Data Farming process
HONOLULU, HI - April 29, 2005 - One of the world's leading experts in agent-based modeling and simulation has joined Referentia Systems as the Director of Data Farming. Dr. Gary Horne is the founder of the Data Farming meta-technique, - a pioneering new process that is an integral part of "Project Albert", an agent-based modeling and simulation initiative sponsored by the Marine Corps Warfighting Lab in Quantico, VA. The goal of Project Albert is to apply high-performance computing techniques to help military decision makers better understand the entire landscape of potential outcomes when planning for military operations.
Dr. Horne's expertise in Data Farming involves the use of fast-running computer simulations known as "Distillations", which are created to simulate various characteristics of a given problem - such as the question of how two opposing forces might behave in a conflict situation. Once the characteristics of the question at hand have been modeled and entered into the computer, the Project Albert distillations explore a broad landscape of "What If" questions, running through thousands or even millions of potential outcomes of the conflict using the resources of the Maui High Performance Computing Center.
Referentia's role includes program management, support and development of new and innovative ways to apply the Data Farming process to current real-world needs requiring powerful decision support solutions, including state and local homeland security and emergency response scenarios. Dr. Horne is joined in the move to Referentia Systems by Lawton Clites, Data Farming Analyst, both of whom were previously employees of MITRE Corporation. Both Dr. Horne and Mr. Clites will continue in their new positions from their current work site at the Marine Corps Warfighting Lab in Quantico, VA.
